George Church, Ph.D., is a world-renowned genomics pioneer who is leading the charge to make DNA science more accessible to all.
A Leader in Personal Genomics
Dr. Church is a trailblazer in developing DNA sequencing. He has co-authored more than 600 articles, 150 patent publications, and the book Regenesis: How Synthetic Biology Will Reinvent Nature and Ourselves. He created the Personal Genome Project and has won numerous awards throughout his career. In 2017, Dr. Church was celebrated as one of Time Magazine’s“100 Most Influential People.”

Meet the Team
Dr. Patrick Merel
Dr. Merel got his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from University of Bordeaux, France. He has built molecular diagnostic, genomic clinical settings, and translational research platforms, consulted the CEO of Beckman Coulter Inc., and helped found Portable Genomics, a genomics and digital health company, and Edico Genome, a bioinformatics hardware company that was later sold to Illumina. He then joined the Omics Center of Excellence to help move the WGS factory towards business applications in sequencing and overlooked the Emirati Genome program. He is now developing the next generation of tools and applications that connect genomics, multi-omics, and AI with the future of healthcare, biotech, wellness and longevity at the Technology Innovation Institute of Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Russ Altman
Dr. Altman holds an A.B. from Harvard College, an M.D. from Stanford Medical School, and a Ph.D. in medical information sciences from Stanford University. He is board certified in internal medicine and clinical informatics. He received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Program award. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, a former president of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and a founding board member, fellow, and former president of the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB). He has also chaired the science board advising the FDA commissioner, served on the NIH Director's Advisory Committee, and co-chaired the IOM Drug Forum.
