By using Grey Genetics’ counseling or consulting services, you agree to be bound by the following Terms of Service. Please read them carefully.
Grey Genetics, LLC provides genetic counseling and consulting services, consistent with a genetic counselor’s scope of practice as defined by the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) and the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC). Grey Genetics does not provide medical advice. No appointment with a genetic counselor and no discussion by way of phone, videoconferencing, electronic communication, or any other manner is intended for medical diagnosis or treatment, nor should any information provided through genetic counseling services be taken as a reason to disregard any previously given medical diagnoses or medical advice. Always seek the advice of your physician or a qualified healthcare professional with any questions you may have regarding any medical condition.
Accurate Self-Representation
In using Grey Genetics’ Services, you agree not to misrepresent your state of residence and/or the place of service of your telegenetic counseling appointment. In receiving telegenetic counseling services through Grey Genetics you assert that you are a resident of and/or located at the time of the appointment in a state in which either a) there is no licensing requirement for genetic counselors at the time of the appointment, or b) the genetic counselor providing you with genetic counseling services holds a license from the state in question, as indicated during the scheduling process.
Importance of Personal and Family Health History Review
Evaluation of a patient’s personal and family health history is an integral part of a thorough genetics evaluation. The practice of genetic counseling relies heavily on accurate reporting of personal and family health history, ethnicity, and the results of any previous genetic testing done for either an individual or an individual’s close relatives. Providing inaccurate or incomplete information can result in an inaccurate risk assessment and may also result in more, fewer or different recommendations. New or conflicting information received after the time of a genetics consultation, including but not limited to changes in personal or family health history, has the potential to impact risk assessment.
Appointments scheduled with Grey Genetics’ genetic counselors through DNA Complete’s website are limited in scope, specifically focused on reviewing a customer’s genomic information, as tested and reported by DNA Complete, in conjunction with bioinformatics tools and reports, developed and maintained by DNA Complete. Grey Genetics is in no way involved with the testing or reporting processes of DNA Complete, nor with the development or maintenance of DNA Complete’s client portal, reports, or tools for viewing genomic data. Genetic counselors with Grey Genetics will review the genomic information provided to you by DNA Complete and can explain basic principles and concepts behind genetic testing and reporting. DNA Complete’s tests are not validated and are not performed and reported under clinical diagnostic testing protocols. In all cases, findings of potential concern should be followed up on by diagnostic genetic testing performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.
If you have concerns about your personal or family health history, you should seek genetic counseling that includes evaluation of your personal and family health history, including a three- to four-generation pedigree. If you disclose something of potential significance to your genetic counselor about your personal and family health history and your genetic counselor advises you that this is an indication for genetic counseling, you are solely responsible for following up with a certified genetic counselor regarding this indication.
Possible Need for Follow-up Appointments at Additional Cost
By scheduling this appointment, you acknowledge that if a finding of potential concern is discovered during the overview of DNA Complete’s Gene Analysis tool, a follow up genetic counseling appointment may be recommended and that this would incur an additional cost. Similarly, a disclosure made by you to your genetic counselor about your personal or family health history could prompt the recommendation for you to follow up with a physician or a relevant specialist. These appointments may also incur additional costs.
